The Consumer Price Index, CPI in February 2026 recorded a decrease by 0.3 per cent compared to February 2025. The Department of Economic Planning And Statistics, Ministry of Finance and Economy in its press release stated that the decrease was mainly due to a 0.5 per cent decrease in the Non-Food index. Meanwhile, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index recorded an increase of 0.7 per cent.
The decrease in the Non-Food index was mainly contributed by lower costs of Recreation and Culture, particularly online media streaming subscription services; Communication, specifically internet service packages; and Clothing and Footwear.
As for the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, the increase was mainly driven by an increase in prices of Fish and Seafood, particularly fresh fish; Fruit specifically fresh tropical fruit; and Coffee, Tea and Cocoa.
On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in February 2026 increased by 0.2 per cent from January 2026, driven by increases in both the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, and the Non-Food index.
The CPI is a measure of price changes of a fixed basket of goods and services purchased by consumers in a specified period and compiled on a monthly basis. The CPI full report for February 2026 is available from the DEPS website, 'deps.mofe.gov.bn'.
